Mather & Co's most recent projects both at Dover Castle and Inverness Castle, are undergoing significant developments. Dover Castle reopened to the public last month, while the highly anticipated Inverness Castle Experience is scheduled to open in 2025. Mather & Co is part of the team breathing new life into both iconic heritage sites.

Dover Castle: The Key to England

Dover Castle welcomed the public back in July 2024, offering a fresh experience that combines a unique blend of interpretation and play, reopened medieval tunnels, and a new play area. The focus is on the 1216 siege and events during the 18th and 19th centuries when heavy investment was made in the castle due to the threat of war overseas.

Inverness Castle Experience: Celebrating the spirit of the Highlands

Built on the site of an original castle, the red sandstone structures of Inverness Castle were constructed in the 19th century and historically served as a prison and a courthouse. Located in the heart of Inverness on the banks of the River Ness, the castle is an iconic building known to Highlanders and visitors due to its prominent position within the city.

Mather & Co is currently working on transforming Inverness Castle, with completion expected in mid-2025. The goal is to make Inverness Castle Experience a top-tier tourist attraction that celebrates the spirit of the Highlands’ past, present, and future - taking visitors on an interactive journey through landscaped gardens and sensory experiences inspired by stories from across the Highlands about its landscape, culture, heritage, and people.

The experience will also allow people to come together and share the best of Highland music, food, and drink with an exhibition dedicated to celebrating the 'Spirits of the Highlands', showcasing the unique spirits distilled in the Highlands. The opening interactive exhibition will feature the music and stories of Runrig, celebrating the band’s impact on the area’s cultural scene over the past half-century.

If you have a heritage building that you’d like to bring back to life, please get in touch with us to discuss how we can make this a reality.
